You’ll get an extra three days to file your federal income tax return this year.

The deadline will be April 18th.

By law, holidays in the district have the same effect as federal holidays.

Emancipation Day celebrates the day President Lincoln freed slaves in the District of Columbia.

He signed the act about nine months before the Emancipation Proclamation.
