Taxpayers Face April 18 Deadline This Year

You’ll get an extra three days to file your federal income tax return this year.

The deadline will be April 18th.

The IRS is pushing back the date because of a holiday in the District of Columbia on April 15th.

By law, holidays in the district have the same effect as federal holidays.

Emancipation Day celebrates the day President Lincoln freed slaves in the District of Columbia.

He signed the act about nine months before the Emancipation Proclamation.
